“It’s getting there. It’s looking really good,” Sam Harding told the Greene County school board about the new high school and regional career academy last week.
Many parts of the building will be essentially complete Aug. 1 and school staff has already begun moving things from the middle school gym, where they’ve been stored this summer, to the new building.
Construction crews have been able to keep working through the Covid-19 pandemic, but the project has still been impacted. Harding reported the bleachers won’t be installed in the gym until mid-August. They’re coming from upstate New York and production has been delayed due to Covid.
The auditorium may not meet its Oct. 1 target date, either. Construction is going well, but the rigging isn’t yet in production.
Harding also reported crews have made “tons of progress” on the HVAC at the former high school, which is being repurposed as the middle school. He said the boilers won’t be installed until September, but that isn’t a cause for concern.
The space that was Ram Restaurant will be remodeled for the central administration staff. That work won’t start until the rest of the project is completed.
Classes start Aug. 27 for students in grades 9-12, and Sept. 8 for students K-8.
